in all of my work, and for this piece in particular, I am interested in the stories that materials can tell. I was fortunate to find the wood I used for this project, which was reclaimed from a construction site in the Bronx. I purposefully left much of the wood unfinished to suggest the story of how it came to be made into this table.
floor table
for a project based on the idea of "commensality", the act of sharing a meal, I designed a collapsible floor table for my studio apartment using reclaimed wood. I was inspired by Japanese eating culture and the common use of a "chabudai" (卓袱台), a traditional table made for floor sitting. the table is in three pieces and has no fixed joinery.
